Anubias barteri var. nana 'Black' is a rare and highly sought-after variation of the classic Anubias, prized for its unusually deep, dark green to near-black foliage. Shipped in a convenient starter pot, this rugged, slow-growing epiphyte adds incredible depth, shadow, and maturity to any planted aquarium.
Why Choose It
Dramatic Contrast: The exceptionally dark, leathery leaves create a stunning visual contrast against bright green plants, colorful fish, and light-colored hardscapes.
Ultra Low Maintenance: One of the most forgiving plants in the hobby. It thrives in low tech tanks and requires almost zero trimming due to its slow growth.
Beginner Friendly & Hardy: Highly adaptable to a wide range of water parameters and resilient against plant-eating fish due to its tough, thick leaves.
Versatile Placement: Its compact size makes it a perfect midground or foreground accent piece for tanks of all sizes.
Planting & Care
Attachment: Remove the plant from the plastic pot and carefully peel away the rockwool from the roots. Never bury the thick horizontal rhizome in the substrate, or it will rot. Use aquarium-safe super glue, thread, or plant weights to attach the rhizome directly to rocks or driftwood.
Upkeep: Thrives best in low to moderate lighting. High lighting can cause algae to grow on its slow-moving, broad leaves. Ensure stable water parameters and gentle flow to keep the dark leaves clean and healthy.
